The new top wine by Marqués de Riscal, from a selected plot that has been patiently recovered by them for ensuring top fruit quality and genuine Rioja character. Deep colour and restrained aromas, opening up in a complex array of pure black fruit, with very delicate spiciness. In palate the wine is silky and tight, finely grained while fresh and so elegant. A French would say 'cousu en dentelle', sewn in fine lace. The wine takes a long time to become living memory, becoming incredibly detailed in its expression. Perfect balance. A very “modern” and concentrated expression from Riscal showing excellent depth here. Strikingly hedonistic nose but also demure, showing cocoa powder, blackberries, mussels, black walnuts, mocha and violets. Full, broad and compact with superb concentration on the palate. Plenty of vertical tannins here in a tight, very fine-grained mode. Long, long finish. Needs time. Better from 2026. - Zekun Shuai, JamesSuckling .com
