This is a pure expression of organic Alicante Nero, otherwise known as Grenache. The Ampeleia 2018 Alicante opens to a lean appearance with light ruby and garnet highlights. This wine boasts a spectacular bouquet that is highlighted by fragrant rose, lilac and violet. Fermentation sees 10 days of skin contact and 30% whole clusters. Fruit is sourced from the cool and breezy Vigna della Pieve with stony soils. There is a touch of crunch or bite on the tannins. This production of 7,000 bottles absolutely stands out for its elegance and beautiful floral intensity. - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
A vivid, fun red with lots of ripe strawberry and floral aromas and flavors, as well as cracked black pepper. Light body and tannins and a crisp finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now. - James Suckling
For this Alicante, grapes are sourced in plot n° 148 of cadastral sheet 153 called "Vigna della Pieve". Here the soil is rich in sand with a great amount of pebbles, ideal for the Alicante Nero – a common Mediterranean variety also known as Grenache in France, Cannonau in the neighbouring island of Sardinia and Garnacha in Spain.
