From a parcel of nearly 1ha in Clos de Bèze. Two-thirds of the vines were planted in 1912, stretching from the bottom of the hill to the top, producing a wine of great complexity and depth. Using 30% whole clusters and a very gentle extraction, delivering aromas that initially seduce with rich notes of black cherries and spicy plum. On the palate, there is impressive density and plenty of structure, but nothing astringent or over-concentrated. Truly masterful.--Charles Curtis MS, Decanter
Fine bright colour, with a very charming bouquet of medium depth, light reduction, dense rich strawberry notes, a little dry behind but very good ripe fruit nonetheless. Just not quite in place at the moment There could be more of an upside in due course. Tasted: November 2020.--Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Note: two-thirds of the .98 ha parcel of vines was planted in 1912 and the remainder in 1973
Tasting note: Even spicier liqueur-like aromas of plum, violet and earth are present on the cool and beautifully layered nose. There is very fine volume, power, richness and concentration to the powerful big-bodied flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract while delivering outstanding length on the complex, balanced and robust finale. This youthfully austere effort is packed with development potential and should also age effortlessly.--Allen Meadows, Burghound
