Fonteny is the northern continuation of Mazis, and Clair’s 0.68ha monopole is the Clos du Fonteny at the top of the slope, in thin white marl soils over the limestone. 40% whole clusters are used in the fermentation and the wine ages in 30% new casks for 18 months. The result shows a perfumed red cherry fruit aroma, with bright floral notes, firm tannins and a crisp but tightly wound texture on the palate.--Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
