A full-bodied, deep coloured, rich and intense style. Floral and stony on the nose with lovely fresh berry fruit. Very tannic although it's still mouth-coating and ripe – this needs time but it’ll be worth it when ready. It flirts with over-extraction but doesn't overstep the mark. Oak maturation lends plentiful spice and complexity. Long finish. Made from 47-year-old Syrah vines planted on granite soils near Tournon, lieu-dit St-Joseph. Completely destemmed, then fermented in concrete and matured for 18 months, 65% in large wooden tank, 35% in demi-muid, of which 25% is new oak. Drinking Window 2022 - 2030. Decanter
The 2017 Saint-Joseph Les Granits is full-bodied and concentrated, marked by blueberry and cassis fruit alongside notes of crushed stone and chocolate. Richly tannic, it's chewy but ripe on the long finish, suggesting up to 15 years of positive evolution. - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
