The 2019 Carignan is composed and harmonious on the nose, perhaps a little low-key compared to its peers, pencil box and black fruit, neat 'n tidy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced, fresh and old school with a persistent finish. Chapeau! This is a superb 2019 built to last. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Carignan sashays out with fragrant notes of fallen leaves, cinnamon stick, and cloves over a core of kirsch and crushed blackberries. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and elegantly styled, with seamless freshness and a perfumed finish. - Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Independent
Sweet berries and plums with chocolate and walnuts. Medium body with nice, firm tannins. Lovely finish. 75% merlot, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc. Drink or hold. - James Suckling
This modestly priced claret (under £100 per dozen) received some impressive scores. You won't find a better 2019 Bordeaux for less. - Thomas Parker MW, Farr Vintners. Southwold-on-Thames Bordeaux 2019 Tasting January 2023. Recommendations from across the appellations At £300 per dozen or less
