Edge of reduction on first nose, this is glossy and had vivid fruit character along with inky depths to the fruit, softened by raspberry around the rim. Careful extraction, this is a good quality Chauvin with firm muscular tannins well balanced by attractive slate-strewn blueberry and blackcurrant fruits. Tasted on two separate occasions, with one sample showing more aggressive tannins, the 2022 Château Chauvin reveals a deep purple hue as well as a lifted, floral bouquet of red, blue, and black fruits as well as graphite, crushed stone, and iron. Medium to full-bodied, it has building tannins, good overall concentration, and outstanding length. I suspect this pretty, perfumed, exotic Saint-Emilion will round into form over the course of its élevage. - Jeb Dunnuck
