Really spicy wine with slate and cloves. Redcurrants. Medium body. Velvety tannins. Energetic. Super salty. Crushed chalk. Contrasty. - James Suckling
The 2022 Clos Lunelles checks in as 80% Merlot and 10% each of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 50% new French oak, with the balance in once-used oak. Classic Castillon black raspberry, graphite, chalky minerality and floral notes all emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a dense, concentrated mid-palate and ripe tannins. This is great Castillon turned up to 11! - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 Clos Lunelles is a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon with 3.57 pH. Deep garnet-purple in color, it pops from the glass with vibrant wild blueberries, kirsch, and red currant jelly scents, followed by hints of rose oil, crushed rocks, and graphite. The full-bodied palate delivers electrically charged red and black fruits, supported by a racy backbone and super-fine-grained tannins, finishing long and chalky. Yields were 35 hl/ha. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Inside Bordeaux
The 2022 Clos Lunelles was cropped at 35hL/ha between 29 September and 1 October, then aged in 50% new oak. This is plush on the nose with blackcurrant pastilles, crushed blueberry, vanilla and a touch of truffle, very pure in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-balanced and focused. The 14.63% alcohol is disguised well with a much fresher finish than the preceding Monbousquet. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Smells potent and perfumed, lively and aromatic. structured but compact, really quite tannic though not harsh just filling and coating with liquorice, wet stone and minerality that takes over the fruit enjoyment at this stage. Despite the hefty tannic expression there's some juicy strawberries and a sense of coolness the whole way through. Controlled with a really long length. Has great promise as feels really well worked still with the plushness of the vintage on show. Ageing 44 years, 50% new oak, 50% one year old barrels. Acidity 3.89. 3.57pH. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
