Beautiful blackberry aromas with some fresh mushroom and forest flower character. Full-bodied with fine tannins that give the wine focus and structure. It’s fresh and vibrant at the end. Very fine structure here. Very typical. Try after 2027. -JamesSuckling.com
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Clos Rene gives up earthy notes of tilled soil, truffles, and iron ore, leading to a core of baked blackberries and plum preserves. The full-bodied palate features impressive energy, with a refreshing line and soft tannins supporting the fruit through the long finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
The 2020 Clos René showed beautifully, with a pure, elegant style offering lots of cassis and black cherry fruits as well as notes of Christmas spice, flowers, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe, present tannins, it's very much in the style of this ripe yet fresh, lively vintage. - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2020 Clos René is very intense, almost backward on the nose of blackberry, bilberry, crushed violet and truffle aromas, and even a little blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grippy tannins and a bold, dense midpalate. I cannot recall a Clos René as structured as this latest release. Quite peppery toward the finish, which leaves behind a long, tobacco-tinged aftertaste. This is an excellent Clos René but it should be afforded several years’ cellaring once in bottle. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
They love to deliver classically-styled wines from this estate, and this is very clearly a tannic-heavy, big shouldered old school Pomerol with real heart and charm. Expect plenty of blackberry, black cherry and smoked earth, edging towards austere, should be ready to go in three or four years. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
Blue fruits, cola and liquorice on the nose. Sharp and quite high-toned initially, a rush of bright red fruits, almost sour - raspberries, red cherries and herbal strawberries and nice floral elements. Detailed and nuanced with well integrated wood though it lacks a little substance and push on the mid-palate. Mouthwatering and has nice energy, but just lacks a little spark. - Georgine Hindle, Decanter
