From Pitures and Mitans, as usual, plus the handful of grapes from Clos des Angles. Rich vigorous purple colour and a flamboyant racy purple fruit nose. The oak blends in nicely. Vigorous fruit with good acidity, juiciness certainly, perhaps not quite the grace this might have displayed without the frost. Tasted: October 2017.--Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Very dark color. Lively aromas of blueberry and violet. Juicy and intense, with very ripe, sweet dark berry and chocolate flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity and saline minerality. This wine includes the Volnay Clos des Angles fruit, since production in this premier cru parcel was too small to make a separate cuvée. Stephen Tanzer – Vinous Media
Blended with the Les Pitures and Mitans as usual, the 2016 Volnay 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet with pure blackberry and bilberry fruit, focused and what you might describe as tidy. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely blackberry and redcurrant fruits, something refreshingly bucolic about this premier cru, a little short but delicious. Neal Martin – The Wine Advocate
Tasting note: A notably ripe nose features notes of cassis, plum liqueur, anise and a discreet hint of wood. There is a finer texture to the still muscular and sappy flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the firm and youthfully austere finish. This too should age effortlessly. Allen Meadows - Burghound
