The 2022 Albariño Cepas Vellas feels quite reductive and difficult to read on the nose. It took time to open up, but the palate showed the depth, balance and clout of the wine from minute one. It's dense and intense, with crystalline purity and great length, leaving a strong rocky sensation like the old vines really feed on the granite. 9,000 bottles were produced. Gerardo Méndez and his family work 165 plots of vines, a total of 14 hectares in the Valle del Salnés in Rías Baixas. 2022, which they compare with 2010, is an extreme vintage with very dry and warm weather. Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas is one of Spain’s most iconic white wines from a single 1.5 hectare plot of Albarino at the front of the estate vineyard, and is capable of long aging – up to 20 years. Only 750 cases were produced.
