The Dunns' Trailer Vineyard, perched high on Howell Mountain at around 2,100 ft, was planted in 1972 with a low-yielding selection Cabernet Sauvignon and finally replanted after the 2013 vintage. The old vines' swan song cuvée captures the essence of Howell Mountain and the Dunn style. Red and black currant fruit are the background to brooding aromatics of rich earth, tar, clove, woodsmoke and grilled meat. On the palate the wine is massive, almost brutally concentrated, and structured around a vast chassis of tannin and acidity; indeed, after 30 months in barrel this still seems wild and untamed—but that only adds to its authenticity. About 100 cases produced.—William Kelley, Decanter
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailer Vineyard exudes serious richness and intensity. Unctuous dark fruit, mocha, blueberry, spice and cloves build as this voluptuous, huge wine shows off its personality. The Trailier is an unusually racy wine by Dunn standards. Mike Dunn picked this fruit a little bit riper than is common for the other wines and did not remove alcohol. The result is a flamboyant, opulent wine endowed with dazzling textural richness. Trailier is Dunn's original Howell Mountain vineyard. This parcel was replanted after the 2013 harvest.-Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Aromas of rose petals, currants and dark chocolate. Black fruit. Full-bodied, layered and gorgeous on the finish. Fantastic length and excitement. About 300 cases. Available in 2019. Will be so beautiful on release. Last vintage before replanting.-James Suckling
