Sour black cherries, violets and a touch of peppercorns and chaparral. Really fresh and crunchy with al-dente fruit and tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Freshness is the key here, and there seems to be more fruit in this vintage. Drinkable now, but better from 2025.-James Suckling
The 2022 Syrah Las Pizarras originates from a coastal vineyard nestled in the granite soils of the Coastal Range, approximately 13km from the ocean. Fermented with 7% whole clusters and aged for 12 months (60% in French oak barrels and 40% in foudres), this purple-hued wine reveals enticing aromas of blueberry, blackberry, violet and black pepper, intertwined with a profound balsamic layer that enhances its intensity. Lean and juicy, it boasts a vibrant mouthfeel and heightened acidity, leading to a silky, concentrated and agile flow. This is a Syrah worth exploring.-Joaquin Hidalgo, Vinous Media
The 2022 Las Pizarras Syrah leads an intensely exotic, herbal nose that forms around a core of cured meats, with aromas of mortadella, oregano, dried sage and bramble fruits. With increased aeration, it becomes fabulously floral and lifted. The palate is plush and velvety, braced with excellent tension and focus, leading to a saturated finish flanked by taut yet weightless tannins. Still wound up and inward, this will reward a year or to come together. It is a gorgeous expression nonetheless, and I look forward to following its progress in the cellar. It fermented with a small amount of whole clusters and aged 12 months in a mixture of French barrique and foudre.-Matthew Luczy, The Wine Advocate
