Eugenie Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru 2021 (750ML)

The 2021 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru was made with 75% whole clusters this year. This is a tangible level up from the Echézeaux with vivacious dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit, much more in terms of concentration and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-chiselled tannins that frame the pure, very saline fruit. Energetic and animated on the finish. This has serious potential. Superb.-Neal Martin, Vinous Media

75% whole bunch vinification, aged in three new barrels out of five. A rich full deep purple. There is a wealth of fruit on the nose but it hasn’t quiet decided on its direction. More soft than precise at this point. Rich, plums, raspberry strawberry, then the tannins reassert themselves a little at the back. The fruit swells once again, but the various constituent parts have not quite come together. There is more coming back behind, but I have opted to score conservatively at this stage. Tasting note: An exuberantly spicy yet cool and restrained nose reflects notes of Asian-style tea, violet, black cherry and a deft application of wood. The richer, bigger and more powerful flavors possess even better concentration with slightly better complexity as well that emerges on the balanced and lingering finale where a touch of oak can be found. This is built to repay extended keeping yet there is so much sap that it should be reasonably approachable after 5-ish years.--Allen Meadows, Burghound
