Note: Eola-Amity Hills, 144 cases, vines planted in 1982 with some 2015 replants, 13%
Producer note: Russ and Mary Raney founded Evesham Wood in 1986, planting the first vines in Le Puits Sec Vineyard in 1989. Russ, who has since passed away, began farming organically in the early 1990s and earned organic certification in 2000. As part of The Deep Roots Coalition, a group of over 30 wineries, they have pledged to not irrigate estate fruit nor purchase irrigated fruit. In 2007 Erin Nuccio began making his own wine at Evesham while working there. When Team Raney chose to retire, Nuccio, took over Evesham Wood as the winemaker and owner in 2010 and has done an extremely impressive job following up the excellent quality produced by the Raneys.

Tasting note: There are hints of green tea adding breadth to the aromas of cool red currant, floral, briar and spice wisps. Here too there is good volume to the delicious, vibrant and appealingly textured middle weight flavors where the mouthfeel also benefits from the relatively fine-grained, if dense, tannins on the powerful, serious, compact and borderline rustic finale. This firmly austere effort is a 'buy and forget you own it' wine for at least 7 to 8 years and 10 would be better. In sum, this is very promising but a bit grumpy at present. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2021 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard wafts up with a blend of crushed rocks, wild strawberries and hints of animal musk. Lifted and softly textured, this excels through its cooling acidity and crunchy red berry fruits swirling throughout. It leaves a sour cherry twang and saline minerals while finishing long and pleasantly refreshing.-Eric Guido, Vinous Media
