Charming and classy, this red is lush and saturated with black cherry, blackberry, earth and a hint of tobacco flavors. It's balanced, turning firmer midpalate, with powdery tannins lining the tangy finish. An accent of iron creeps in at the end. Best from 2024 through 2042. 3,300 cases made, 270 cases imported.—BS, Wine Spectator
Mingling aromas of sweet wild berries with rich bass notes of forest floor, spice and grilled squab, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is medium to full-bodied, broad and concentrated, with rich structuring tannins, comparatively low acidity and a long, sapid finish.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Tasting note: This is very Gevrey in character with plenty of sauvage, freshly turned earth, forest floor and brooding wild dark berry and cassis scents. There is fine richness to the concentrated, powerful and full-bodied flavors that exhibit a subtle minerality on the moderately austere and impressively long and slightly grippy finale. Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
Bright deep dark crimson. This wine also has something of a firmer touch to it. Very pure red fruit, deep cherry, rather drier at the finish which goes with the firmness of the bouquet. Pleasing, quite pretty, but lacks the expressiveness of the best Cazetiers on show. But it does put on some flesh in the glass. Drink from 2030. Tasted: September 2022—Jasper Morris, Inside Bugundy
Barrel sample. Mid crimson. Sweet dark-red fruit with some peppery oak spice (approximately 50% new and 50% two-year-old barrels for all the Faiveley premier cru reds). More savoury on the palate. One of the least charming wines at this stage but also one of the most refined in structure. The extraction of the tannins is so well judged to match the hidden but present fruit.
