Tasting note: This too is firmly reduced and aromatically unreadable today. Once again there is excellent volume to the exceptionally rich and beautifully concentrated flavors that possess first-rate power and punch while exhibiting strikingly good persistence on the impressively deep and balanced finish. This overtly robust and muscular effort is clearly built-to-age and is going to need at least a decade's worth. This too is excellent.
The 2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru was not affected by frost and is matured in 50% new oak. Despite a tiny reduction, this has a lovely bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry, raspberry and floral scents of peony and rose petals. Good vigor and delineation in situ. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, crisp acidity, a quite insistent grip in the mouth and it just closes in on the finish, implying that it will benefit from several years in the cellar. Excellent.—Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
