From a cooler, higher elevation terroir in the appellation, the 2016 Cornas Lieu Dit Les Eygats offers some serious ripeness and richness as well as notes of blackberries, currants, melted licorice, crushed rocks, and violets. Rich, full-bodied, powerful and concentrated, it has a sensational texture, ripe, tannins, and a great finish. It puts its foot firmly on the ripeness pedal but holds it together beautifully. Located at 300 meters above sea level, the Les Eygats is among the last of the Cornas vineyards to be harvested. The 2016 Cornas Lieu-Dit Les Eygats features cedary, meaty aromas but also plenty of red raspberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's rich, layered and long, approachable now but capable of aging for a decade or more. - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
A modern style, featuring a mocha note out front, followed by alluring crushed cherry, raspberry and plum fruit flavors. A swath of tobacco and extra waves of cocoa take over on the finish, with a light echo of dark olive keeping this grounded. Best from 2020 through 2030. 150 cases made, 30 cases imported. - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator
Inky ruby. Expansive aromas of black and blue fruit liqueur, roasted coffee and olive paste, plus a suave floral nuance that builds with air. Deeply concentrated but lively as well, offering palate-staining blackberry, bitter cherry, espresso and violet pastille flavors and building spiciness. Chewy tannins add solid grip to a very long, incisive finish that leaves a hint of dark chocolate behind. Fermented in concrete tanks and aged in new and used demi-muids for 14 months. - Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
