Fascinating aromas of lemon peel, orange, lilac and cherry, but the beauty here is the savory, salt, mineral, berry character. It shows clay and terracotta as well. It goes on for minutes. What a wine, Will be even better in two or three years. - James Suckling
The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is delicious. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and spices jump from the glass as this bold, fruit-driven Brunello fleshes out, showing off its extroverted personality. Layers of intense fruit continue to build as the wine opens up in the glass. Ideally, readers should give the 2010 a few years in bottle for the tannins to settle down a bit. This is a fine effort from Fossacolle.
Bursting with dark cherries from the start, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows its youth, but also shows its aging potential. The wine seems excited and anxious to embark on a long evolutionary trajectory. I say that because of the inner vitality and energy that burns within this dark ruby-colored Brunello. The tannins are wound tight, nervous and require more time to soften. The fruit notes are prominent and fresh, but there's enough licorice, herb and blue flower to count on emerging complexity. All these elements should line up smoothly in five years from now. - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate
Deep ruby with brick rim. Scented, almost a little floral. Terrific intensity but all in dried fruit and leather and dry in texture. Moreish, some oak sweetness. Wait. - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com
