The 2021 Fourcas Hosten is made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (harvested 5-13 October), 35% Merlot (30 September to 8 October), and 5% Petit Verdot (4 October). They lost 50% of the crop to frost in 2021 and 30% to mildew. The overall yield was 10.5 hl/ha, though it was 30-35 hl/ha on the sections that were actually picked. It is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. Fresh blackcurrants, black cherries, and ripe raspberry notes jump from the glass, followed by hints of clove oil, cinnamon toast, and cedar with a touch of pencil lead. Light to medium-bodied, the palate delivers a firm frame of grainy tannins and a lovely backbone of freshness supporting the intense black and red berry layers, finishing long and spicy.
