Medium-bodied with firm, lightly chalky tannins. Mineral and stone character with dried leaves, currants and cocoa. Savory. - James Suckling
The 2021 Fourcas Hosten is made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (harvested 5-13 October), 35% Merlot (30 September to 8 October), and 5% Petit Verdot (4 October). They lost 50% of the crop to frost in 2021 and 30% to mildew. The overall yield was 10.5 hl/ha, though it was 30-35 hl/ha on the sections that were actually picked. It is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. Fresh blackcurrants, black cherries, and ripe raspberry notes jump from the glass, followed by hints of clove oil, cinnamon toast, and cedar with a touch of pencil lead. Light to medium-bodied, the palate delivers a firm frame of grainy tannins and a lovely backbone of freshness supporting the intense black and red berry layers, finishing long and spicy. This is an incredible achievement, all things considered! pH 3.75. IPT 81. This is the first year that the red wine is certified organic. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent
