An exuberantly spicy nose speaks mostly of sauvage elements on the dark currant, plum, violet and markedly earthy scents. The focused and larger-scaled flavors are less refined with offering plenty of minerality on the more structured, serious and youthfully austere finale. While this could be approached after only 7 to 8 years, it has the stuffing to repay 15+ years of keeping. - Burghound
Mazy (or Mazis) Chambertin adjoins the Clos-du-Beze vineyard, and has similar but even thinner marl soils. Mazy shares the same Premeaux Limestone bedrock that lies below Ruchottes, which the M.W. Jasper Morris reports is heavily fractured, allowing the vines to penetrate the otherwise very hard stone. Clive Coates says Mazy produces the wine most like Chambertin and Beze, with excellent richness and gras. While Mazy is generally below Ruchottes, the two vineyards have a ying-yangpositioning and relationship, with the Mazy-Haut extending up above Ruchottes-Bas.
