The 2012 Champagne Blanc de Blancs d'Ay Brut was the most enjoyable for me of these wines, though it has a similar floral note with a hint of a mustiness that I don’t know how to pin down. The aromas are of brioche, wet river rock, and ripe pear, and it offers the richness of fruit on the palate, with a bit of pineapple and salty earth. The 2012 Blanc de Blancs d'Aÿ is a very complete wine that marries radiance with freshness, as the best wines of the year do. Lemon confit, tangerine oil, pastry, spice and buttery notes build nicely in the glass. I especially like the energy, while the magnum format really lets purity of the Chardonnay shine.
