Aromas of plum, iron and pumice with some flowers. It’s medium-bodied with powdered, fine tannins. It’s layered and elegant yet so structured. Very long and focused. Wild finish with a lava-like undertone to it all. Just above the contrada of Rapante. Drinkable but better in two or three years.-James Suckling
Translucent red with a deep ruby core. This has more kick than many Etna wines, a little more grip, still oh so juicy and full of minerality, salinity, pummice stone, redcurrant, mandarin, saline cracker, oyster shell and vivid fresh fruits that are so distinctive to this location. Both super dry and yet super fruity at the same time, with clear acidities that give definition and lift. This is tingling, exciting, juicy, clings on and just subtly demands you to take another sip. One to share. Carolo Ferrini winemaker. As so often with wines from this part of Sicily, it brings home the much-maligned concept of minerality, and is great value. 80 year old vines, 35hl/h yield, just 7,000 bottles from north facing slopes set at 950m, aged in large 500 and 700l oak casks, then moved into concrete. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
The single-varietal 2021 Nerello Mascalese is pale garnet-purple in color. It springs forth with notes of fresh redcurrants and raspberries, leading to hints of graphite, lavender, and sauteed herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate offers chewy tannins and a racy backbone to support the vibrant red berry and herbal flavors, finishing with a pleasant grippiness.-Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
Potpourri dried flowers, cracked peppercorns, garrigue herbs and caramelised, spiced nuts on the nose. Warm and filling, the tannins are pronounced with a crushed stone, iron-laced tang that coats the entire mouth. This has strength but it's not heavy, with a juicy core that lifts the palate and acidity to keep things fresh and forward. This builds in layers adding in more spice, sun-kissed black and red fruit with mineral touches throughout, building to a long and sustained finish. Feels like the alcohol stands out a touch but this would work well with food. From a two-hectare vineyard planted on volcanic soils at 950 metres above sea level. 5.9g total acidity. 7,000 bottles produced. WInemaker Carlo Ferrini.-Georgina Hindle, Decanter
