(made with fruit that was sourced from 15 different premier and grand cru sites in the Cote de Blancs and Montagne de Reims; aged for four years on its lees before disgorgement; L1336121): Vivid yellow. Powerful, mineral-accented orchard fruits and Meyer lemon the nose, with a sexy floral nuance adding complexity. Stains the palate with concentrated pear, melon and lemon curd flavors, with a smoky, leesy quality building with aeration. Surprisingly lively for its depth of flavor thanks to bright, nervy acidity and a chalky quality. Closes long and toasty, with excellent clarity and lift.

The NV Brut Excellence is a terrific effort at this level. A fragrant, open bouquet leads to deep, layered core of fruit. The wine shows gorgeous complexity, nuance and a multi-dimensional personality that is simply compelling. The Brut Excellence is 45% Pinot Noir, 13% Pinot Meunier and 42% Chardonnay. Gosset only uses juice from the first and best pressing of grapes, and unlike most other producers, initial fermentation is still carried out in small oak barrels. Riddling and disgorgement are performed by hand.
