The team at Lafleur makes two whites. The 2021 Château Grand Village is 73% Sauvignon and 27% Semillon, and this will be the first vintage made in the new cellars at Grand Village. It's also the first year where it was vinified at cooler temperatures, which might have resulted in the incredible purity and precision in this beauty. Pineapple, flowers, hints of banana (which I've no doubt will dissipate over the course of its élevage), and chalky, salty notes give way to a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, crystalline white that's well worth seeking out. -Jeb Dunnuck.
The 2021 Grand Village blanc is made from 73% Sauvignon Blanc, harvested on 9, 11, and 13 September, and 27% Semillon, harvested on 7 September. It skips out with bright, vivacious scents of white peaches, lemon curd, and fresh grapefruit with hints of elderflower and chalk dust. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is intense and with amazing tension, delivering layer upon layer of citrus and stone fruit flavors, finishing long and chalky. -Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
Green apple, lemon rind - lovely crystalline aromas. Serious energy here - ripe fruit, exotic pineapple, mango and sweet ripe peach that gives the sucrosity and the weight on the tongue. This has a lovely density and intensity on the palate but with a lightness of touch in terms of the texture. It’s electric, driving and persistent, full yet reined in with a distinct mineral, wet stone touch giving a cleanliness. Volume and layers - everything is to the fore right now with excellent presentation. A characterful, energetic wine worth seeking out. -Georgina Hindle, Decanter.
The Grand Village 2021 Blanc unfurls in the glass with aromas of white currants, apple blossom, crisp orchard fruit and nectarine. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it's chiseled and penetrating, concluding with a saline finish. -William Kelley, The Wine Advocate.
The 2021 Grand Village Blanc was picked September 9–13 and for the first time was vinified in the cellar, which is cooler and slowed the vinification down. It has a lively, irresistible bouquet of lime, white peach and apricot blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity, quite tensile, and very fresh, featuring gooseberry, lime and a touch of white pepper. Just delicious. -Neal Martin, Vinous Media.
