Full medium red. Ripe, highly aromatic nose combines redcurrant, cherry, tobacco, spices and dried flowers. Wonderfully seamless and sweet but with powerful underlying minerality giving the middle palate almost shocking energy. This fruit bomb has the saline depth and floral lift, not to mention the firm spine of tannins and acidity, to ensure a long life in bottle--especially for a village wine! A hint of orange zest on the end only amplified the impression of vibrancy.
Transparent crimson – much paler than this domaine's wines have been in the past. There's an earthiness about this nose, as well as a comfort factor – familiar slippers? Sweet start and good energy. This is a wine that really seems anxious to please. Fair charge of acid and tannin on the finish. Certainly not cheap but it does the biz. Jancisrobinson.com
