Rich deep dark colour, the nose is a little less exciting than I expected, showing a little bit of the burnt stones aspect of Brûlées. There is certainly a significant weight to this wine, with a sweeter touch, interestingly complex and with good length. Fresher finish. Tasted: November 2020.--Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The vineyard is at the northeastern end of the Vosne-Romanée, just north of the prestigious Richebourg site which lies on Aux Brûlée's southern boundary.
Tasting note: An even spicier and slightly riper nose offers up aromas of plum liqueur, red cherry and a pretty array of floral scents and in particular violet and lavender. The super-sleek, refined and equally energetic middle weight flavors possess a gorgeous texture that carries over to the moderately structured, youthfully austere and beautifully persistent finale. The supporting tannins are more sophisticated if less dense and while this too is going to require extended cellaring, this lovely effort should be reasonably approachable after 8ish or so years. Sweet Spot. Outstanding.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
Grivot’s 0.26ha holding of Brûlées was planted in 1969 and the vines are across the street from those of Méo-Camuzet. The wine is initially a bit closed, but opens on the palate with time to show a ripe plummy fruit, smoke and a firmly mineral/saline note. The feel on the palate is notable for its fresh, lively character and lingering finish.—Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
