The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) comes from a vineyard that tends to produce millerandé berries. This has an intense, powerful bouquet with hints of menthol permeating the citrus fruit, developing a more fumé style with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with hints of passion fruit and peach on the entry, becoming spicier and subtly Muscat-like toward the very satisfying, persistent finish. Excellent. Note: from Le Grand Clos and Vignes Blanches
Tasting note: This is ever-so-mildly phenolic in character (think olive or nut oil nuances) with additional notes of petrol, resin, white fruit compote and a dollop of toasty oak. The exceptionally rich, concentrated and powerful flavors also coat the mouth with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the solidly powerful and focused finish that delivers excellent length. There is a touch of backend warmth but overall, this is really quite good. Outstanding – Allen Meadows - Burghound
