The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, peonies, warm spices, orange rind and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and seamless, it's sensual and concentrated, with lively acids and a long, resonant finish. This has turned out especially well.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
A solid dense sombre red purple. There is plenty of weight on the palate, dark fruit, quite a lot of oak take up, but really very long. Juicy, rich and exuberant with considerable length. Tasted: December 2021—Jasper Morris, Inside Bugundy
Tasting note: A pure, spicy and relatively high-toned nose speaks of spiced plum, anise, cherry and iron-inflected earth. The super-sleek, delineated and tautly muscular flavors retain a degree of refinement that borders on finesse, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, highly complex and long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is pretty much textbook Fontenys that should amply repay extended cellaring.—Sweet Spot, Outstanding. –Allen Meadows, Burghound
