The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, peonies, warm spices, orange rind and licorice. Tasting note: A pure, spicy and relatively high-toned nose speaks of spiced plum, anise, cherry and iron-inflected earth. The super-sleek, delineated and tautly muscular flavors retain a degree of refinement that borders on finesse, all wrapped in a youthfully austere, highly complex and long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth.
