We finished with a welcome dessert wine in the shape of the 2017 Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia, which mirrored my recent tasting note. Just heavenly.
This is really sensational as always with dried-apricot, dried-pineapple and honey character with salted nuts and hints of white syrup. It’s very sweet, yet energetic and intense. It goes on for so long. And then again. Yet, it remains balanced. A great sweet wine through and through. Drink or hold. - James Suckling
One of the great sweet wines of the world, just hover your nose over the glass to be transported by its lyricism, power and concentration. This tiptoes between lemon curd and smoked toffee richness and a more pointed rosemary, lime blossom and jasmine florality. It's full of character and life, succulent and fresh, with a salted caramel twist that gives a savoury finish. 3.7pH. - Jane Anson, Decanter
This is luscious, but not tiring, with great purity and focus. The allure starts with the viscous texture, then the palate reveals layer upon layer of flavor, with notes of bergamot, honeydew melon, chrysanthemum, orange blossom honey and refreshing quince. Everything is supported by mouthwatering acidity, which makes this superlong on the finish. Impressive. Drink now through 2042. 15,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.-Wine Spectator
Boasting a juicy and fruity nose, the 2017 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine is pale gold in the glass with a delightfully concentrated stone fruit essences that sway with elements of white peach, nectarine, dried apricot, apple and quince purée before notions of jasmine honeysuckle waft from the nose. Medium to full-bodied, the wine displays a succulent peach nectar flavor as it effortlessly glides across the mid-palate, flaunting with elegance and finesse. The juicy acidity framed with the layers of fruit and floral context leaves me just staring at my glass while the wine continues to evolve and unfold in the mouth. The wine coasts to an elongated finish that will have you picking your glass up again sooner than you know. Bravo!-Anthon Mueller, The Wine Advocate
Lustrous mid gold. Dried apricot, orange blossom and citrus peels on the nose, suffused with nutmeg, clove and coffee cream, and an earthy, spicy, saffron-like note. Richly sweet and unctuously textured, but with a streak of acidity that balances beautifully, and gives a preserved grapefruit and lemon flavour. Fantastic length.-Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson
