The 2021 La Violette is a classy, sophisticated Pomerol. Like all the wines in the Parent stable, it exudes balance and proportion. Hints of lavender, spice, mocha, dried herbs and licorice weave through a core of dark-toned fruit. Subtle but persistent tannins and bright acids extend the finish. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
The 2021 La Violette is deep garnet-purple colored. It has a fragrant nose of kirsch, black cherry preserves, and blueberry compote, plus suggestions of potpourri, tilled soil, and Ceylon tea. The medium-bodied palate has a quiet intensity of red and blue fruits with soft, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and perfumed. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Independent
Subtle floral nose, blackcurrants and purple flowers - some red cherry and perfume too which continues on the palate. I like the boldness here, this is dark and serious and you get that chocolate and liquorice more than the overt fruit or acidity at the moment. Quite strict, focused in one layer from start to finish. It has good clarity and precision, feels clean and well worked with a crispness as well as a firm backbone that drives the wine. It’s just a little sombre and serious but dedicated. Shows lots of promise. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
Captures the graphite edge of the best Pomerols this year, with clear quality to the cassis, redcurrant and black cherry fruit, totally delicious and overshoots the vintage, with raspy but chewy tannins, a little austere but softened by black chocolate and liquorice bud. Vignobles Péré-Vergé. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
Sweet berry and spice with some pie-crust character. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. - James Suckling
The 2021 La Violette has a very precocious bouquet, like it did at primeur, with black plum, licorice and raspberry - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Offering up aromas of cherries, cassis and plums mingled with notions of licorice, spices and creamy new oak, the 2021 La Violette is a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered wine built around a fleshy core of fruit and powdery, liberally extracted tannins. Like its stablemate Le Gay, it's vinified entirely in new barrels. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
