The Lafarge family suffered 80% losses in the 2021 vintage and have combined their production of Volnay into just two cuvées, one village, and one premier cru. They have done their work carefully and well to produce a delicious wine with fragrant raspberry fruit and floral aromas. The texture is silky and fine, with fresh acidity, light body, and a very elegant balance. This will drink well on release and will hold for a decade at least.—Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
Just a single cuvée with no Vendanges Sélectionées possible. Fresh light purple. very pretty raspberry and alpine strawberry, very elegant charming nose but rather more backward on the palate, some darker fruit, a few tannins, plenty of wine here but currently not quite in place, but clearly with full potential. Drink from 2025-2030. Tasted: October 2022.-Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The 2021 Volnay Village has a bright but classically-styled bouquet with tertiary, tobacco-tinged red fruit, the oak neatly integrated (though there is no new wood here.) The palate is medium-bodied, open and generous with grainy tannins, fine acidity and a saline finish. Maybe a little monochrome compared to other vintages, but it should give a decade's drinking pleasure.-Neal Martin, Vinous Media
There's just one cuvée of 2021 Volnay Village chez Lafarge this year, and it's an attractive wine, exhibiting aromas of raspberries, rose petals and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and mouthwatering palate.-William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Cask sample. Bright, dark-mid ruby. Seems very Volnay in its velvety, suave fruit. Very floral nose. Lacks a bit of punch on the mid palate and not showing great length. It’s very pretty though.-Matthew Hayes, JancisRobinson
