The brilliant second wine, the 2006 Les Forts de Latour, a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, possesses a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful bouquet of asphalt, cassis, cedar, truffles, and earth, and a full-bodied, dense, beautiful style that is similar to a 1996 Pauillac. It will age effortlessly for 15 years. - Robert Parker
Deep ruby-red. Black fruits, licorice, minerals, tobacco and iron on the complex nose. The wine's sweetness almost comes as a shock, but the creamy blueberry and blackberry fruit flavors are given lift and clarity by firm acidity and solid underlying minerality. Finishes with sweet tannins and subtle persistence. An unusually accessible young Forts de Latour, and riper than it appeared to be in the early going: as I recall, its supple character is partly attributable to the fact that it includes a good bit of declassified Latour merlot but less Latour press wine than usual. -Stephen Tanzer, Vinous media
Les Forts de Latour is at the level of some of the Médoc classed growths. This 2006 is wonderfully juicy with ripe fruit that floats above the dry structure. It is the freshness combined with that generous fruit that is so outstanding here. A great wine for drinking after 3–4 years. — Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
From 2007, Chteau Latour set up a Prooftag system that provides traceability for all our bottles and authentication for the Grand Vin. This innovative system was developed after several years of trials and enables us to improve the traceability of our wines and to prevent counterfeiting. More information about this unique technology is available on http://www.prooftag.net/en
There is now a code on each bottle neck which can be entered in our website to obtain information about the wine (http://www.chateau-latour.com).
As of January 1st 2013, all the wines (Pauillac, Forts de Latour, Grand Vin de Chteau Latour) released by Chteau Latour are equipped with the Prooftag System.
