A fresh raspberry strawberry nose after one of the lighter colours. Much broader on the palate with an impressive density here, strawberry and cherry, evenly balanced with finesse as well. All is there in quite a refined style. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted: November 2023.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Note: from 35+ year old vines
Tasting note: Here the timid nose is more deeply pitched still with its array of plum, dark currant, humus and just turned earth. There is at once excellent volume as well as a refined texture to the utterly delicious and vibrant middleweight flavors that flash evident minerality on the bitter pit fruit-suffused finish. This firm effort needs to develop better depth but the underlying material appears to be present for that to occur.—Outstanding.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
The 2022 Volnay Les Angles 1er Cru, the first fruit to be picked as usual, is well-defined on the nose: red berry fruit and crushed limestone scents, a less exotic style than before. The palate is well-balanced with succulent black fruit, black pepper and a touch of marmalade. With fine length on the finish, this is far improved on the 2021. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
