The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru has a floral bouquet of black and blueberry fruit infused with crushed violet and iris petal. This is completely destemmed, so it does not convey the same amplitude. The palate is medium-bodied, with light Earl Grey and ash notes tincturing the black fruit. Fine structure and focus here.

Tasting note: Liqueur-like aromas of plum, kirsch, rose petal and violet are trimmed by notes of oak and menthol. There is decidedly more volume, if decidedly less refinement, to the big-bodied and markedly powerful flavors that possess an abundance of sappy dry extract that imparts a lovely texture to the intensely structured, muscular and impressively persistent finale.
