(Domaine Louis Jadot)

The very deep sour-cherry nose with delicate floral notes pulls you into the gravitational field of this remarkable Chambolle-Musigny. It manages to be riper and more concentrated than the wines of this appellation normally are, yet it retains fabulous mineral and blood-orange freshness that enables this to light up the night sky like a fireworks display. Very long and energetic finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024—James Suckling

A compact red, with pure cherry, earth and oak spices fused to bracing acidity and dense, finely wrought tannins. Though this feels balanced and long, the finish is lightly astringent. Be patient. Best from 2025 through 2043. —B.S., Wine Spectator

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées (Domaine Louis Jadot) reveals a deep bouquet of plums, dark berry fruit, exotic spices, orange rind and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with powdery tannins, tangy acids and a mineral finish, it's a real success. The 2020 vintage has turned out beautifully at this address, delivering concentrated, flavorful wines with alcohol levels between 13.3% and 13.7% and with low pHs. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier told me that efforts were made to pick earlier in the day, and that fruit waiting to be processed was kept fresh in a special cold room. In the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. But aside from the quality of the 2020s and these technical developments, described in more detail in the accompanying tasting notes, there's other noteworthy news too: in 2021, Jadot entered into organic conversion for their domaine vineyards.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate

This is also quite floral-suffused with plenty of spice elements adding a touch of elegance to the ripe and mostly liqueur-like aromas of various dark berries. There is excellent underlying tension to the detailed and markedly finer though less powerful flavors that conclude in a moderately austere and sneaky long finale. This is a wine that should be reasonably approachable after 6 to 8 years but also one that should reward 12 to 15. Outstanging. –Allen Meadows, Burghound

he 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a reserved bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit, black pepper, allspice and just a hint of pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh and lightly spiced with a harmonious, almost Vosne-like finish where I just wanted to see a little more mineralité. Let’s see if it gains some during the remainder of its barrel maturation.—Neal Martin, Vinous Media
