Gold Medal - Drinks Business Best Champagnes of 2021
The world’s biggest Brut NV Champagne is also one of the best, gaining some of the highest scores of its category in this year’s competition. Praised for its fresh fruit flavours, from apple to raspberry and lemon, and gently bready and chalky notes, it was deemed a textbook taste of Champagne at a relatively accessible price. - The Drinks Business
An elegant Champagne, with a finely detailed mousse and a bright streak of lemon peel–laced acidity carrying well-meshed flavors of patisserie apple and pear, biscuit, smoke and candied ginger. An aperitif style, showing good focus and length. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. — Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator
This is showing aromas of apricots, grapefruit, pears and short crust. Some walnuts, too. Medium-bodied, with soft bubbles and tasty nut and pie crust notes at the end. Blend of pinot noir, meunier and chardonnay. 24 months on the lees. Tasted from a magnum bottle. - James Suckling
Slightly smoky reductive nose with notes of chalk dust, quince, and wild strawberry. Bright apple freshness on a yeasty, mellow palate and lovely balance with a gentle resonance. - Decanter
A golden straw appearance, the NV Champagne Imperial Brut is creamy and decadent with aromas of crème brûlée, candied citrus, and baked golden apple. Juicy and ripe, it fills the palate with sweet fruit of pear compote and quince and reveals a supple texture as well as a fluffy mousse. Quaffable, with a touch of fruity sweetness lasting on the finish, it’s prime for drinking over the next few years as an aperitif. - AF, JebDunnuck
The most familiar Champagne brand in the world is also among the most reliable. There is a light touch of toast on the aroma that follows through to the ripe flavor. It is a soft while dry wine, full of zesty white fruits and just a hint of maturity. Drink now. — Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
Pale golden yellow, silver reflections, fine, lively mousse. Nuances of meadow herbs and fresh yellow apple, a hint of biscuit and orange zest. Juicy, elegant, white apple, fresh acidity, lemony touch, a hint of nougat caramel on the finish, fine roasted aromas and ripe apricots on the aftertaste. - Falstaff
"Light, bright yellow. Musky pear and toasty lees on the nose and in the mouth. Fleshy and open-knit, with a hint of bitter lemon pith adding back-end cut. Finishes on a gently smoky note, with very good cling and focus and a hint of bitter quinine. This must be the best example of this bottling that I've had in years, if not decades." — Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
Notably deep and rich on the nose (more so than any of the zestier champagnes above). Lots there even if slightly muted but good balance and texture. Pretty rewarding and very easy to drink (is this not the mission statement of M&C?) - Jancis Robinson
