Note: from a .94 ha parcel of 25+ year old vines, of which .52 ha is planted to chardonnay in Clos de la Maltroie and Les Places
Tasting note: There is a whiff of the exotic present on the slightly honeyed aromas of white peach, freshly sliced citrus and a floral top note. The succulent, even seductively textured medium-bodied flavors possess both good volume and density that contrasts somewhat with the bone-dry, moderately austere and borderline tannic finale. The Clos de la Maltroie is usually approachable young, but this sneaky long effort is going to require at least some patience. In a word, lovely. Outstanding. Allen Meadows, Burghound
Pale lemon colour. As usual the nose here is less expressive though there is a good weight of fruit. Picked 27th August, 45-50 hl/ha 13.5%. The character shows more on the palate, white fruit with a little sucrosity. Ready soon but with capacity to age. Tasted: October 2021.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
Aromas of pear, beeswax, toasted nuts, white flowers and youthful reduction introduce the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Maltroie, a medium to full-bodied, lively and tightly wound young wine built around bright acids and chalky extract.—William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
Again that struck-match style but not overdone. There’s richness of fruit on the palate, a rounded, creamy whole with a clear, pure core of citrus fruit. Intense, savoury from the oak and so pure from the fruit. Very long. –Julia Harding MW, Jancis Robinson
