This is among my favourite reds from Chassagne - it has the lilting, bright cherry fruit and rose petal notes of the best examples, but there is more richness and density here than many. There is a deft balance between freshness and structure that keep this a very lively wine which will drink young but can age for a decade as well. Not quite one-third of the Niellon holding in the Clos St-Jean is planted to Pinot. The grapes are destemmed and given a cold soak prior to fermentation and the extraction is assured by foot-treading.—Charles Curtis MW, Decanter
