This smells gorgeous. Comes flaring nostrils and prancing out of the glass. Burnished pears, quince, rich and yet reverberating. A nuttiness carved into a savoury framework, even a touch toasty. Shortbread and lavender with a real fieriness – kind of like Sichuan pepper or warm paprika spice – but the extravagant richness and power of this wine lies in its glowingly bodacious fruit. Grilled apricots and preserved ginger root. Long and lingering. Absolutely stunning.- Tamlyn Currin, Jancis Robinson
This wine was originally called "Granite de Clisson" after the unique bedrock in the vineyard. Marc changed the name to Clisson to agree with the new INAO Cru Communal classification. Pépière owns 5.5 hectares within the cru but only a part makes it to the actual Clisson bottling (the rest goes into La Pépie). It's a patchwork of of vines of various ages. The oldest were planted in 1929 and on average the vines are 60 years old.
