L.V. stands for Long Vieillissement; literally, Long Ageing. This cuvée, based on the 2000 vintage, was initiated by Charles Philipponnat, when he took over the presidency of his familial house. It possesses a stunning bouquet of walnuts, peach, pear, and fresh pastry, with hints of minerality. Vinous and multi-dimensional, it’s a muscular and concentrated Champagne with marked freshness and elegance on the finish. Plenty of racy acids. Superb! Disgorged: March 2021. Dosage: 4.5 g/L. - YC, Decanter
Disgorged in March 2021 with 4.5 grams per liter, Philipponnat's 2000 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Cuvée 1522 L.V. is showing beautifully, bursting from the glass with a rich and demonstrative bouquet of marzipan, ripe stone fruits, dried citrus rind and a subtle hint of iodine. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and gourmand, with an enveloping core of fruit, lively girdling acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse, in a blind tasting it might be mistaken for a 1999. It's in its prime today and will make a superb choice for near-term drinking. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
First vintage of this cuvée. LV stands for Long Vieillissement, or extended ageing. 60% Pinot Noir from the family's original plot in Aÿ and 40% Chardonnay. Disgorged March 2021. Dosage 4.5 g/l. Just 300 bottles produced. Quite a bit of autolysis on a rather frivolous (in a good way) base. Some patisserie aromas. Very fine bead. Dry finish but lots of rather exuberant fruit before then. Pretty complete and convincing. Though it has a lot further to go, I think. - Jancis Robinson
