The 2019 Réserve de la Comtesse is elegant, silky and nuanced, with terrific presence and tons of pure class. Crushed red berry fruit, mint, blood orange, rose petal and spice all build with a bit of aeration. I am so impressed with the wine's breadth and textural intensity. The 2019 Réserve is without a doubt one of the best recent editions here. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
A candidate for the second wine of the vintage, the 2019 Pichon Comtesse Reserve is stunning stuff that surpasses the Grand Vins of most châteaux. Pure cassis and darker currants as well as tobacco leaf, lead pencil, and spring flowers all define the bouquet, and it's pure class on the palate, with a seamless, elegant, supple mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It's one classy Pauillac that I'd be thrilled to drink any time over the coming two decades.-Jeb Dunnuck
Dark blackcurrant on the nose, deep and powerful. Good chewy intensity here, quite a ripe style, fleshy with bright cherry fruit poking through the liquorice flavour. Really balanced, giving fruit, fresh acidity, spice, tannins and length. It has a dark profile with the spicy, liquorice undertone but well packaged, precise and driving. One of the best second wines in Pauillac. Can drink now but this also has the power and presence to age. Drinking Window 2024 - 2036 - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
A pretty red with blackberry, cherry and currant. Some chocolate and walnut, too. It’s medium-bodied with integrated tannins and a polished finish. Hazelnut at the end. Drink after 2024. - James SucklingPlenty of tannins that are muscular and dense, clearly signposting a 2nd wine from a high quality estate. Has grip and tension through the palate, with cocoa shavings and fresh acidities. There are black fruits here, a little subdued at the moment, but this is impressive. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux
This is already a very approachable wine. With its touches of spice behind the black currant fruits, the wine is a fine example of this vintage, fruit and a warm structure. Like all good second wines, it will develop relatively quickly. - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
Medium-bodied, elegant, soft, ripe and supple, the fruit is fresh, elegant and creamy. There is a sweetness and lift to the berries as well as a polish to the tannins and loads of energy, silky textures and a touch of spice in the finish making this gorgeous to drink today and for at least the next 15 years or more. As the quality here continues jumping in class every year, this is becoming a true Pauillac brand, instead of a second wine. Drink from 2023-2037-Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider
The 2019 Réserve de Pichon Comtesse fulfills the impressive showing from barrel. Beautifully defined on the nose, it offers intense blackberry and briary scents mixed with mint. The medium-bodied palate offers supple but firm tannins and well-judged acidity. Quite dense for a Deuxième Vin, with superb precision on the bold finish. Great value for money, and it will age extremely well in bottle. - Neal Martin, Vinous Media
The 2019 Reserve de la Comtesse is composed of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with savory notions of smoked meats, tapenade, and sauteed herbs, giving way to a core of red and black currants, pencil shavings, and cracked pepper with a waft of cumin seed. Medium-bodied, elegant, and with impressive savory layers, it has a fine-grained texture and earthy finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent
Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate edge lightening. Black cherries, nuances of ripe plums, fresh orange zest, fine blackberry confit in the background. Juicy, dark heart cherries, some cassis, ripe tannins, fine fruit sweetness on the finish, chocolaty aftertaste, good development potential.-Peter Moser, Falstaff
The 2019 Resèrve de la Comtesse is striking, soaring from the glass with scents of violets and rose petals mingled with cassis and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, polished and succulent, it’s lively and seamless, with impressive concentration and a long, penetrating finish. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
