The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has a very classy and well defined bouquet with pure black cherries, raspberry and light mineral aromas that unfurl from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, very focused with lovely grip and poised, slightly gritty in texture towards the finish but it boasts impressive length. Superb. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin - Vinous Media
The Cailles is superb this year, opening up in the glass to reveal notes of wild berries, blackberry, red cherry, game bird, wood smoke and spice. The wine is elegant and expansively full-bodied, its fine-grained tannins largely hidden by a sappy, intense core of fruit. Like Les St-Georges and Les Vaucrains, this is a bit more reticent than the other wines in the cellar this year, but that is only an indication of its seriousness. - William Kelley, Decanter
Tasting note: A strikingly pretty, even perfumed, nose is comprised by aromas of spiced plum, dark currant, tea and a discreet but not invisible application of wood. There is both more refinement and minerality present on the caressing yet quite powerful medium-bodied flavors that also culminate in an equally firm and lingering finish. This too is built-to-age but in contrast to the Pruliers, the natural refinement of a classic Les Cailles will permit it to be approached after 6 to 8 years. Outstanding - Allen Meadows - Burghound
