Château Ripeau continues to ratchet up the quality, and the 2019 shows the vintage beautifully, with an elegant, medium to full-bodied textured, silky tannins, and classic notes of dark fruits, tobacco, violets, and cedar. Building with time in the glass, it packs plenty of richness and depth, yet it's the balance, purity and length that set it apart. It's a wonderful 2019. - Jeb Dunnuck
An estate that has been on the rise for the past few years. This is less exuberant, more knitted down that their 2018 but it remains an excellent choice in the vintage. It has dark chocolate and tight berry fruits, and a tight tannic wall that guards the structure. Heavy bottle, seems a little at odds with their green agenda. The 2019 Ripeau is intense on the nose with blackberry, mulberry, pressed iris and light peppermint aromas. It just needs a touch more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. It is a stocky Saint-Émilion, maybe missing a bit of refinement in the context of the vintage. I appreciate the substance and mineralité that finally emerges on the finish. - Neal Martin
