Violet, black currant and black cherry aromas and flavors are at the heart of this supple and energetic yet elegant red. Vibrant and linear, with a firm line of tannins and terrific length on the iron-tinged finish. Ends with fruit, mineral and spice notes, showing solid grip. Sangiovese and Pugnitello. Best from 2027 through 2045. 1,435 cases made, 550 cases imported.-Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator
The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, leather, smoke, incense and tobacco add to an impression of gravitas and pure power. This is an especially somber, virile edition of the San Marcellino. Give it a few years to soften.-Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media
Bright, intense ruby red. Clearly sweet blood orange, sour cherries and black pepper on the nose, followed by an aroma of dark chocolate. Juicy, ripe cherry fruit on the palate, pleasant acidity with soft tannins, elegant and long finish. = Falstaff
Nice complexity and savoriness, with walnuts, grilled citrus, plums and some sweet spices. Full-bodied yet pretty reserved, with fine, dusty tannins and an extensive finish. Polished. Drink now or hold. - James Suckling
Impenetrable dark ruby. Supertuscan but more in the mould of Le Pergole Torte. At first, quite oaky and then opens up to cherry, raspberry and garden herbs. The classic iron note of Sangiovese. Gorgeous, supple red and dark fruit spiced with oak. Suave and long but a little more open-knit and ready than the stunning 2016 was.-Walter Speller, JancisRobinson
