The 2022 Gigondas Hominis Fides is a step up, with a touch more density and richness. It's full-bodied, has a layered, concentrated mouthfeel, plenty of ripe, polished tannins, and a solid core of darker fruits, iron, ground pepper, and some garrigue nuances. A serious, age-worthy Gigondas, it’s going to benefit from bottle age.—Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 Gigondas Hominis Fides is an intricate elixir, bursting with ripe black fruits, blueberries, rose water, dried herbs and a bite of forest strawberry. The fullbodied and firmly structured Hominis Fides retains impressive freshness and boasts stunning verticality on its seamless palate. This is a truly stunning 2022 crafted to stand the test of time.--Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous Media
A dense, well-composed and muscular Gigondas. The nose expresses notes of sweet cherries, dried flowers, grilled herbs, thyme and orange peel. Full-bodied with fine tannins. It’s ample and so precise, with a silky texture at the center. Driven and lively, with a restrained power throughout. Spicy and vivid, with a long finish. From organically grown grapes with Ecocert certification. Try from 2026.—James Suckling
Good depth of colour. The oak is really quite noticeable here, but it works, helping to round out the tannins and give some sweetness to the fruit. Really quite robustly tannic, this will take time to come round. The acidity is piercing too. A highly structured Gigondas with more depth than most this year – fully ripe in flavour, which isn't always the way among 2022 Gigondas. Grenache planted in 1902 (or earlier) on Miocene calcareous sand. Single vineyard. No destemming. 12 months maturation in French oak barriques: 30% new, 30% 1-year-old, 30% 2-year-old. Unfiltered.—Matt Walls, Decanter
Broad-shouldered, smoldering and black, this offers a densely packed coil of dark fruit encased in iron. Time in glass reveals peppery, energetic details, with smoked herb and graphite elements, but this still needs time to unwind. Black tea tannins and plum skin acidity carry this through the massive, lingering finish. Its opulence is well-matched by its fine structure and savory power. Best from 2026 through 2040. From France.—K.B., Wine Spectator
The 2022 Gigondas Hominis Fides—tasted as a blend assembled from several barrels—is a full-bodied, velvety-textured beauty, but it has enough bright, well-defined acidity to impart a certain edginess to the black raspberry fruit. I suspect it may close down soon after release, but it should age well for at least a couple of decades.—Joe Czerwinski, The Wine Advocate
Tasted blind. White pepper, spice, fig and sandalwood. The palate has good definition, with firm, finely grained tannins, tobacco, mocha and mulberry. Taut and tight, with a core of generous fruit and spiced, earthy notes beneath. Serious stuff that needs at least five years to soften.-Alistair Cooper MW, JancisRobinson
