Mid lemon and lime colour. Not picking up much nose at first. It is in the fresher, limier, more floral style of Puligny. Prettier fruit through the middle then the salinity at the back makes you salivate. Really classy. Just keeps going. The best Chalumeaux that I can remember. Drink from 2027-2035. Tasted: October 2023.—Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Chalumaux 1er Cru is much more expressive on the nose than the La Garenne, which is apparently always the way. Quince, Japanese yuzu and wilted yellow flowers infuse the citrus fruit, a hint of frangipane appears with aeration. The palate is very taut and concentrated on the entry, with fine acidity. It’s slightly viscous in texture but holds on to Puligny DNA and fans out wonderfully on the finish. Superb. -- Neal Martin, Vinous Media
Note: from a 1.28 ha parcel that comprises about 20% of the entire vineyard
Tasting note: This is also firmly reduced and currently revealing nothing. On the palate though there is a bit more volume and richness to the medium-bodied flavors that are fine, if not quite as fine, as those of the Charmes while displaying even better complexity and length on the beautifully well-balanced finale. While clearly possessing excellent aging potential, this should effortlessly reward up to a decade of keeping. Sweet Spot. Outstanding.—Allen Meadows, Burghound
