Sappy spice with lovely ripe red fruit and plenty of firm tannin but not much complexity. Moderate density of fruit should evolve in a few years, but I wouldn’t expect earth-moving revelations. (RH) Jancisrobinson.com
Tasting note: Moderately prominent wood sets off subtle spice notes on to the ripe, pure and densely fruited nose of dark cherry, cassis and floral-suffused aromas that are liberally sprinkled with earth nuances. The detailed and intensely stony middle weight plus flavors are shaped by notably firm but fine tannins on the notably more complex and longer if more austere finish. Like most quality examples of Chambertin, this is going to require extended patience. Allen Meadows - Burghound
Domaine Tortochot’s Chambertin is one of Burgundy’s best kept secrets. Chambertin, of course, commands extraordinary prices-especially in fine vintages. Those who collect Tortochot Chambertin don’t require all the bells and whistles associated with big press to know that the wine is a consistent performer at a reasonable price for Chambertin despite the lack of reviews. 2016 was a challenging vintage to say the least, with about half the fruit lost to early frost, but what remained was extraordinary. Gabriel Tortochot’s wines are generally ‘old-school’ in style, with great attention to the underlying terroir. - Ron van Vlaardingen, GVWM
