A moderately herbal and wood-suffused nose is comprised mostly of various red berries and just turned earth. There is excellent detail and punch on the lighter weight mineral-driven flavors that terminate in a slightly sweet finale. There is nothing amiss here, but this is both atypical and a bit curious. - Allen Meadows, Burghound
The 2013 vintage was the first to be certified organic. The grapes are sorted in both the vineyard and in the winery and that the fruit is 100% destemmed.
The vineyard itself is situated on a subsoil of marl, covered by a thin surface of scree and the finest silt. Brown chalky soil developed over these deposits. The Tortochot parcel, located at the highest part of the vineyard, is much whiter and very marly. This type of soil slows down the vegetative cycle and imparts this gem of a wine with an exquisite and rare balance.
