Beautiful bright blackberry and blueberry character on the nose. Very pure. Full-bodied, with a dense mouthfeel. Long and chewy. Very tight. Give it time still.—'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Best after 2012.-Wine Spectator

Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. From a great right-bank year, this is a burly, imposing wine with weight, plush, ripe dark fruit but all kept in check by lovely acidity and a leafy, herbal edge. The initial hit on the palate is upfront and showy – the mid palate lacks some concentration compared with some later wines. Impressive. -Jancis Robinson
